What exactly is the daily check-in and how long does it take?
+
The morning check-in is five questions: how you slept, your energy level, how your body feels, your emotional state, and whether you're breastfeeding today. It takes under 90 seconds. From those five answers, the AI pivot engine calculates your state for the day and builds a personalised workout recommendation and calorie target. No lengthy forms, no meal logging, no tracking every rep.
I've never exercised before. Is this app really for me?
+
Yes — and we mean that. During onboarding you tell us your experience level: New to fitness, Some experience, or Active before pregnancy. Beginners get full step-by-step descriptions of every movement, written in plain English with no assumed knowledge. Nobody gets left behind.
When will the app launch? Can I get early access?
+
We're launching in stages. Stage 0 (Closed Alpha) — a small group of 5–10 testers, starting very soon. Stage 1 (Private Beta) — 50 waitlist members, iOS TestFlight, full workout videos. Stage 2 (Open Beta) — 500 users, iOS and Android, paywall live. Stage 3 (Public V1) — App Store and Google Play, general availability. Everyone on the waitlist gets priority access at each stage.
Does MamaFlow work for all fitness levels?
+
Yes. The three fitness levels change the language, depth, and format of everything the app shows you. A former marathon runner and a woman who has never worked out in her life both get plans that are clinically appropriate for their postpartum recovery stage. MamaFlow is not a performance app for athletes. It is a recovery and wellness app that grows with you at whatever pace your body allows.
Is MamaFlow safe to use if I had a caesarean section?
+
Yes — and C-section recovery has a completely separate pathway in MamaFlow, not a modified version of the same thing. A caesarean is major abdominal surgery through seven layers of tissue. The recovery is fundamentally different from a vaginal birth. In the first six weeks, the C-section pathway restricts any trunk rotation, lifting beyond infant weight, or sustained standing exercise. You tell us your delivery type during onboarding and the app handles the rest. Read the full clinical framework →
My doctor cleared me at 6 weeks. Can I jump straight into intense exercise?
+
No — and this is one of the most important things MamaFlow communicates. Medical clearance at 6 weeks confirms sufficient wound healing. It does not confirm readiness for high-intensity exercise. The pelvic floor, the deep core, the hormonal environment — none of these have fully recovered at 6 weeks. MamaFlow applies a structured return-to-movement protocol. "Cleared" means you can start the process. It does not mean the process is finished.
I'm still postpartum but my baby is over 12 months. Is MamaFlow for me?
+
Absolutely. "Postpartum" is not a 12-week window. It can extend for years, particularly for women who experienced significant birth injuries, multiple pregnancies close together, or prolonged breastfeeding. MamaFlow serves mums of children 0–5 years old. The app will ask for your baby's age and adjust the phase accordingly — but it never tells you that your timeline is wrong.
What guidelines is the exercise framework based on?
+
The MamaFlow framework is grounded in the RCOG postpartum guidelines, the ACOG 2020 Committee Opinion on physical activity postpartum, the POGP guidance on returning to running, and published evidence on diastasis recti rehabilitation from Mota et al. and Lee & Hodges. The full clinical framework is currently under review by a registered women's health physiotherapist. See the full evidence base →
I have diastasis recti. Can I use MamaFlow?
+
Yes, with care. MamaFlow asks about symptoms during onboarding and avoids exercises contraindicated for diastasis recti. The core reconnection pathway focuses on transverse abdominis activation, pelvic floor coordination, and breathing mechanics. However, MamaFlow is not a substitute for one-to-one physiotherapy if your diastasis is significant. The app will always recommend consulting a women's health physio if you flag significant symptoms.
How is my calorie target calculated?
+
Calculated using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the most validated BMR formula for healthy adults, selected over Harris-Benedict based on published accuracy studies (Frankenfield et al., 2005). Daily adjustments are applied for sleep deprivation (up to +220 kcal for under 4 hours), breastfeeding (+400–500 kcal exclusive), and training intensity. It is the most personalised calorie calculation available in a consumer postpartum app.
The calorie number looks too high. Should I be worried?
+
This is one of the most common reactions — and it is almost always diet culture talking. The postpartum period significantly increases your calorie needs. You are recovering from major physical trauma, your hormones are shifting, and if you're breastfeeding you are producing a food supply for another human being. MamaFlow will never set a target that is medically inappropriate. The food translation feature shows you what the number looks like in real meals.
I'm breastfeeding. Will MamaFlow push me to lose weight?
+
No — this is a hard rule, not a setting. Calorie deficit states are disabled for all actively breastfeeding users. Based on Lovelady et al. (2000) and McCrory et al. (1999), significant calorie restriction during breastfeeding risks reducing milk supply and impairs maternal recovery. MamaFlow adds 400–500 kcal for exclusive breastfeeding and 200–250 kcal for combination feeding. Weight management goals are only available after you have fully weaned.
Do I have to count calories?
+
No. You choose: show me what it looks like in food (real meals, no numbers), show me the number with food context (both), or just give me the numbers. The calculation still happens in all modes — it drives the meal suggestions — but you never have to see a number if that doesn't work for you.
Does MamaFlow provide meal plans or recipes?
+
In Stage 0 and Stage 1, MamaFlow provides a sample day of eating — a visual guide to what your targets look like in real food. It is illustrative, not prescriptive. Full recipe guidance is on the roadmap for Stage 4, informed by what beta users tell us they want.
Is the free tier actually useful or is it a bait and switch?
+
The free tier is genuinely useful — that is a design principle, not marketing copy. The full AI pivot engine, daily check-in, state calculation, and daily calorie target are free forever. The breastfeeding adjustment is free. Three workout categories are free. Paid tier adds depth: full workout library (200+), macro breakdown, 30-day trends, wearable sync, and cycle phase integration. You can see real results on the free tier.
What is the founding member price and how does it work?
+
The first 100 subscribers get the founding member price: £7.99/month or £67/year. This price is guaranteed for 24 months from your signup date — meaning when MamaFlow's pricing increases, your rate is protected for two years. This is our way of recognising that early users are taking a bet on something that doesn't fully exist yet. That trust deserves a reward.
Is there support for people who can't afford the subscription?
+
Yes. From Stage 3 (Public V1), MamaFlow will offer a hardship access programme: subsidised or free MamaFlow+ access for mums who cannot afford the subscription. Applications are quiet and private — no public process, no questions asked beyond confirming eligibility. Available via a discreet link in the app's profile settings.
What payment methods does MamaFlow accept?
+
In-app subscriptions are processed through Apple Pay and Google Pay via the App Store and Play Store. Web access (if available) is processed via Stripe, supporting all major credit and debit cards. Apple and Google billing means your payment details are never handled directly by MamaFlow.
My health data is sensitive. How is it protected?
+
Health data is Article 9 special category data under UK GDPR. All data is stored in encrypted EU-region Supabase infrastructure with Row Level Security — only you can access your own data. MamaFlow is registered with the ICO as a data controller. We will never sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models without your explicit consent.
Can I delete my account and all my data?
+
Yes — always. Account deletion removes all personal data, health data, and check-in history within 30 days. This is your right under UK GDPR Article 17 (right to erasure). You can also request deletion by emailing hi@mamaflow.io directly.
Will my data be used to train the AI?
+
Your individual personal data is never used to train the Claude AI model. MamaFlow may use aggregated, anonymised patterns from user behaviour to improve recommendations — this analysis never involves personally identifiable data. Any use beyond app operation will be clearly disclosed.
